Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would’ve heard all the buzz that we’ve captured for the first time ever a picture of an actual black hole! To be specific, it’s not the black hole per se, but rather it is the event horizon -the circumference of the black hole. It took a lot to get here, and I’ll spare you the details. Suffice it to say, it was a monumental task, involving people and centers all around the globe to get this one shot.
I for one, love it. It’s been a piece of astronomy that has eluded us for so long, the proverbial mythical beast of the dark sea. But there are others who aren’t so impressed with it. Some think that after all this hubbub that what we got isn’t very exciting.
I mean, it’s only the first picture ever of something that is invisible to the naked eye, but it’s a little blurry so that’s rendered moot right?
Now I use the word “interaction” lightly here, but the functionality of it is still there. Regardless, whether one thinks this is an amazing feat or if it’s a flash in the pan, people are involved one way or another. And one of those ways are memes.

This next one is my personal favorite:

The first meme is the power button on an Xbox 360 gaming console. It’s particular appearance is known as the “red ring of death”, only popping up when someone’s console has hit the fan. The second is from Lord of the Rings, comparing the black hole image to the ominous eye of Sauron.
What I like about these is that they’re not only really funny, but we’re taking something some people may not understand and making it relatable. Because that’s how memes work right? Taking an image or assemblage of words that convey a sort of tongue in cheek/inside joke relatability, and attaching it to a vague image.
